PRINTMAKING?

The time, skills, gear and creative choices used in my printmaking process dwarf those involved in the photographic capture which begins the creation of a print. That's why these are prints - not photographs.

These galleries of prints, 18 x 24 (45cm x 60cm) in limited editions of 37 are printed on Somerset Velvet paper - really nice stuff with the same tactile and visual qualities of traditional watercolor papers like Arches. The surface of these traditional papers don't hold the fine detail of traditional photographic paper so to capture the subtle tones and fine detail in my pieces I don't print any smaller than 18 x 24. If you want one, e-mail me for current prices and availability.

Of course these are also "just" images – and given the current value of an image on the web as something less than a nanopenny - the images you can have for free. Just click the download symbol in the upper right-hand of the image page. Please leave intact the identifying bar at the bottom of the image so wherever the image ends up, folks can find me, its creator.

Technical info – original capture is with either a Canon 5D MK2, or for backpacking, a 1968 Pentax Spotmatic (my first camera...), shooting Ilford 100, 50 or my dwindling stock of Agfa 25. After the film captures go through a film scanner, these files are treated identically to the Canon raw files. Processing is with Photoshop and Exposure2. Output is on an Epson 7800.
